intense reunion

There was a lot of atmosphere on Saturday night at the Videotron Center. The “worms” were numerous and noisy, from the ground to the heights of the amphitheater, due to the passage of the intense Slipknot.

The band from Des Moines in Iowa made a stopover in Quebec with their “Knotfest Roadshow” in the company of Ho99o9 and Cypress Hill.

The show presented by the play For those about to rock has been the case for several years, the crowd began to scream, turn on the lights on their phones and sing along to the choruses of this great AC/DC piece.

And suddenly, the curtain on which the name of the group is written in red ends up falling. Our eyes look in all directions. There are nine on stage. All hidden and spread over two levels and three walkways. Jets of flame explode.

The evening is launched with the explosives disaster, wait and bleed and the stripper lifetime.

“Thank you, thank you and thank you very much, how are you? It’s been too long and too long since we came to your beautiful city,” said singer Corey “The Clown” Taylor, promising an evening full of madness.

This was a return for Slipknot to the old capital since their time on the plains in 2019.

Slipknot, in concert, is a huge launch session with, in the foreground, one of the best leaders on the rock planet. The “Clown” knows how to lead a crowd. A crowd that will party all night.

Slipknot has picked up everywhere in their repertoire. From their first album to we are not your type with, as a bonus, The Chapeltown Rag, a snippet from her next album, which is coming out soon, soon, as Taylor made clear.

The caustic sound magma, delivered with a high number of decibels, sometimes gives way to melodies, which manage to be heard, as during Impious, the devil in me, and during the huge psychosocial. Slipknot even brought back at these concerts, the “ride” stuff rare moment of calm, which the group had not played for 10 years.

And the evening ended as it began, furious, with double People = Shit and Surface.

Corey Taylor has promised that the formation, which was born 23 years ago, will be there for the next 23 years. And to hear the reaction of the fans, they will surely be there. The “worms” are faithful.

Just before Slipknot’s arrival, Cypress Hill was the surprise of the evening. It must be said that we had lost sight of them a bit since their visit to the Parc de la Francophonie in 2014.

DJ Lord, behind his equipment and a huge replica of a human skull, had warmed up the audience, with an introduction where we heard black sabbath the Star Wars Imperial March, the eye of the tiger, purple haze Y Enter Sandman.

Without Sen Dog in attendance, recovering from surgery, Cypress Hill delivered a solid hour of hip-hop. B-Real started great with his nasal voice and double when the shit goes down Y hand on the pump.

True to his style, he launched a long firecracker, during a “medley” where we heard Dr. Greenthumb Y Hits for the Bong. There was a smell of marijuana in the air, and it wasn’t coming from the scene.

The party was solid and B-Real set it on fire with insane in the brain and a segment of Jump from House of Pain where I was completely crazy on the ground.

At 6:30 p.m., in an amphitheater that was not yet full, the American group Ho99o9 (Horror) made a great impression, with their punk-hip-hop-hardcore.
