Oukitel WP19: the smartphone with XXL battery

The Chinese manufacturer Oukitel stands out with its WP19, a smartphone with a giant battery, with a record capacity of 21,000 mAh. Enough to ensure intensive use for a week away from a charger…

How to stand out in the world of smartphones, in a very crowded market where all the models end up looking like? Simply being different. This is the track that Oukitel followed for its WP19. Little known in France, despite a fairly rich catalog, this Chinese manufacturer has a rather radical solution by equipping its new phone with a gigantic battery, with a capacity of 21,000 mAh. Enough to ensure, according to its manufacturer, exceptional autonomy, several days or even a whole week in fairly intensive use: 36 hours of video playback, 123 hours of listening to music, 122 hours of calls and up to 2,252 hours of standby, almost 94 days. What we would be tempted to believe when we know that most current smartphones use batteries ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 mAh, enough for normal use, with a recharge every two days on average. On paper, the Oukitel WP19 does four to six times better…

Oukitel WP19: a weight well above average

To achieve this feat, Oukitel cleverly combined a “classic” phone with an external battery: the famous power banks that you take on the road to charge mobile devices: the WP19 can also be used as a backup battery, to charge headphones, a connected watch or even another phone! A marriage that results in dimensions and, above all, a weight above the ordinary: thus the WP19 measures 78.5 mm wide, 161 mm high, and 14 mm thick and weighs 485 g -no, not only “in the scale” is its mass, essentially constant! If it occupies approximately the same surface as a lambda smartphone, it is slightly thicker than average, between 8 and 9 mm in general. But it is very logically much heavier, with about 300 g more than most current modules. Therefore, there is no risk of forgetting it in a pocket. And long conversations with the phone to your ear can end up looking like weightlifting sessions…

Oukitel WP19: a phone almost like the others

But whatever! Oukitel’s target audience with this remarkable smartphone is not Apple or Samsung customers. The WP19 seems naturally intended for those who privilege autonomy over any other criteria. This does not prevent it from showing more than respectable characteristics. Only compatible with 4G (but with all the frequencies used in France anyway), it is equipped with a Mediatek Helio G95 chip, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (expandable with a card), a 6.78-inch screen with an IPS LCD panel (with a comfortable FHD + definition of 1080 x 2400 pixels and an impressive resolution of 388 pixels per inch) with a refresh rate of 90 Hz that guarantees good visual fluidity. On the photo side, there are three modules on the back, with a 64MP main sensor, a 20MP night sensor, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 16MP front camera. And the range is completed with NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, fingerprint sensor on the side, all with Android 12, with all Google services.

The design remains, massive, it’s an understatement… and angular that obviously won’t please everyone, except phone enthusiasts. A specialty of Oukitel, which already offers several models of the same type, with 8,000 and 12,500 mAh batteries in its catalog, such as the WP5 or the WP18, which can now be purchased online. The price of the WP19 is still unknown, but the WP18, being on sale for around 160 euros, should not be excessive given its exceptional characteristics.
